Last week’s episode on how we get caught between the twin pressures of minimalism and overconsumption gave us a LOT to think about regarding our own relationships with STUFF. On a related note, Virginia wrote this about Stanley cups and overconsumption, and we’re both mulling longer essays about why we’re compelled to buy what we buy (and why we buy so much). Which is, real talk, maybe not great to be reflecting on in January!!! This is the time of year when there seems to be a law that if a social media post isn’t about weight loss, it must be about purging your pantry, or your kids’ toys, or every closet in your house. And that can make all of our stuff feel all the more oppressive and guilt-inducing—but the solutions we see online so often seem to require buying yet more things?

So for today’s live thread — starting now at 12pm EST! — tell us how you’re feeling about shopping and stuff right now!

Let’s chat about how we’re all feeling about buying things, having things, getting rid of things, and/or constantly feeling like we should buy yet more things (cute baskets!) to contain all of the things.
